So there's a used 2002 E55 for sale at a local dealership of mine with 49K on it going for $18.9K. Silver on Black. Does that sound fair, so long as the car is in great condition? It's not CPO, unfortunately.

kind of local dealership?
That is almost trade in value. So if they are an MB dealer the low ball price might indicate issues with the car.No warranty?Be wary.If really interested get it inspected at an independent inspection shop.Everything stem to stern.

Thanks I'll take the advice.

The price sounds very fair but I'd ask them if it qualifies as a CPO and if so, what would the price be? The last 2002 E55 I saw at a dealer several months ago was $29,995 but I don't remember the mileage (it was a clean example). Find out the date it went into service and MB will warranty it up to 7 years from that point if it will pass the inspection.
I agree with ohlord that there is a red flag there due to the price but on the other hand, some dealers will not go to the extra expense to CPO a car. Others are willing to if you agree to a higher selling price.
