Shaking at idle

My new to me E320 is shaking pretty rough at idle. Any gas at all and it goes away. It only happens in drive, no problem in neutral.

After a few searches, I have concluded I am going to order engine mounts, but before I rip this sucker apart, has anyone had this problem with an e320 v6?

I found a few people who replaced the mounts on the 430s but no such luck on the 320, and if the effect was similar.

Thanks in advance guys!

oh lord, I appreciate the quick work! I ran the question over at BW also, and I saw the very good writeup.

I looked under the car, the hockey puck looking mounts appear in tact and clean. I do not know if this is the right part though. It is about 4 inches round with metal on top. At 60 dollars each, I will probably replace them anyway, since in the car's 130k miles, I do not recall any time she did it. My dealer wants 140 each!

I have no CEL. Does this car show codes for minor things with the OBD 2 not triggering a CEL?

Riddle me this, riddle me that.... Today the car barely shook at all. At some lights it was not noticeable. This is the same tank of gas, the same daily commute. I ordered the motor and transmission mounts anyway.

It seems like they were replaced once already under warranty a long time ago, are the replacement parts as weak as the original?

that's how mine started. vibrate, no vibrate then vibration came back little by
little it got worst. it's hard to tell if the motor mounts are bad just by looking from under or from the top. anyway, it did fixed my vibration after replacing both mounts. just my 2 cents. goodluck.

Engine vibration at idle that disappears once you start moving is a classic symptom of bad motor mounts. I have also seen suggestions to check your transmission mounts while you are at it.

Also check the high pressure hose coming out of the PS pump. It loops upward and if it touches the engine it will transmit vibration to the steering wheel.
