Larger Wheels for 1995 E320 Cabriolet

I just checked the TireRack Website and it indicates that my 1995 E320 Cabriolet, which uses Stock 15" wheels, can accommodate 17" wheels if you use 215/45-17 tires. I have a set of four 2003 E500 Stock 17" wheels that normally use 245/45-17 tires. Will the 215/45-17 size tires fit properly on these E500 stock wheels so I can use these wheels and tires safely on my 1995 E320 Cabriolet?

Yes, but you'll need to get special lug bolts. The ones on the car, if used, will go in too far and clip your brake cable in the back among other things. The wheel offset is the same- don't worry. However, there is less bolt-hole distance. Get some shorty ball-seat bolts from a custom wheel supplier, and check how many threads are exposed from the back of the wheel first.

chris-
are you saying that the bolt pattern is not 5-112?

All MB's have 5x112 bolt pattern, its the length of the bolt that can be a problem.

Bolt pattern and offset are perfectly fine; its just that older rims have more sideways metal in the bolt hole for the bolt to transverse. I have 2002 rims on my 1997, but I use very short lug bolts because the bolt holes are machined much deeper into the rim. Simple fix- perfectly safe.

1997 with 2002 rims is still a w210 with w210 rims.
The op is talking about putting w211 e500 rims that are wide rims with an offset that is much different than the 1995 w124 model and installing tires much narrower than the rated rim width for a 215 tire.
Why pass out info that will lead him into wheel trouble
OE was around 40et
a w211 E500 with 17's he needs to check ,but it will be wider and the offset will be lower.putting a 215 on a rim meant for a 245 tire is just as bad as putting a 245 on a rim meant for a 215 tire.
Shorty lugs?
It is a w211 rim the ball seat is different and the lug is different,he needs rad lugs.He needs to check ET and test fit a wider tire more appropriate for the rim width. And you need to not say it is a simple fix, just because you fit a 2002 w210 rim on a 97 w210,does not mean he can do the same fitting a w211 rim on a 2 year older 1995 w124 model, without test fitting.

Are you really telling him it is safe to use shorty lugs with a smaller diameter than the lug hole diameter ?and telling him it is safe?
