Cabin Filters from Autohauz

I got the cabin filters from Autohauz, along with oil and air filters. I'm happy with all the parts except for the charcoal filters. Those turned out to be cheap substitutes. I'll be calling them tomorrow to get a refund or credit on those.

I'll get the manufacturer later.

Look here:
http://www.getek.com.tw/yellowpage/caf.html

The first and third pics are similar to my original filters.

The middle one looks like what I got from Autohauz. Looks like a cheap version of a regular air filter, with some charcoal added.

Manufacturer: Meyle

On the link above, the first pic is for the W211, the third pic is for the W210.

I bought replacement cabin and act. carbon filters from autohausaz about 10 months ago. The carbon filters looked the same as the ones I took out.

A mistake may have been made but I think you owe it to autohausaz to allow them to correct the problem before bad-mouthing them on the internet. They have great customer service.

I'm not bad mouthing anyone, just sating a FACT. I haven't said "their service sucks" or "they made a mistake" or anything remotely similar. Although I COULD have said that they have the wrong part number. The correct number is 2108301118 by the way.

You sir, are over-reacting without cause. Seems that it is you who hides behind the internet to act out.

Apparently, you had lower quality filters installed when you replaced yours. There is no "correct the problem" as they DO NOT carry the original filter.

What I got from Autohaus fits perfectly and works, that is not an issue. The issue is in the quality. What I got frm Autohaus is in the "high charcoal content", while the one I have on my car is in the "ULTRA high charcoal content".

If you can't see the difference, maybe you have a "worship" issue...are you a fan or a fanatic?

Again, just stating a FACT. If you are comfortable with a lower quality filter, thats your decision.

I thought that people here would like to know what they will be getting, compared to what is available, when they order from Autohaus.

Autohaus: High Charcoal Content (Paper Element) # 2108300218

Factory: Ultra High Charcoal Content. # 2108301118

Make your own choice, and allow others to express their opinions.

$59 delivered, including shipping. I used the UPS ground ($4.99) and got it next day anyway. This is the correct part.

If you

note the reference in the ebay ad "OEM Reference 210 830 11 18"
you should be able to figure out the cross reference to the company that made the item,it is a chinese clone, just like the mafs they sell on ebay.
The autohausaz.com unit is oe works fine when needed(I drive a lot and can't remember the last time I had to use the filter feature)
I think you both need to calm down and one of you needs to become less **** about the performance of a interior cabin filter "I don't know...these two look different, feel different, and work different to me."
is it that smelly where you live that you can actually notice a difference in performance?
Now shake hands and get along

Dema:

I had not changed mine in the past three years. I could tell the difference in the smell when I turned it on. I've been using it a lot here. After removing the filter, it feels hard to the touch, as opposed to the new filters. I presume that is a result of usage/time.

With the new filter you can smell the fresh charcoal scent when activated. If you can't smell it clearly, then I think you need to change it. The "other" filter does NOT have any smell at all.

The filter from Autohaus doesn't work as well, period. Sorry if that statement offends some of you. Although I can't understand why you are offended that I would say that Autohaus is less than perfect.

To answer ohlord, YES it smells here. I moved from Georgia to Reading PA, and it STINKS here. Can't wait to go back. Am I **** because I want something that works "better"? I don't know, I think you guys may be getting kickbacks from Autohaus or something. The part number comes from the MB dealership, and they sell the same filter for $122.

Anyway, this is the last time I try to provide some useful information here.

Back to lurk mode.

Partly

pulling your legand yes being from the east coast a long time ago,I can relate to your aversion to the air in Pa.
I personally don't trust stuff of of ebay, far to many parts are cloned right down to the part number and the box and they when priced far below the normal online sellers are most likely fakes. If yours work that is all that matters.
Please don't lurk, just because we taunted you a bit.It is all in the name of good old jousting and usually gets resolved and moved on.
join in more, tell us about your set up and plans etc.

John Deere
3rd party parts come in 3 types - as an example, the Bosch O2 sensors

1) Bosch sensors made specifically for MB spec that go through the MB distribution chain (so the price is higher due to some combination of Bosch markup and MB markup).

2) Bosch sensors that will fit the same car but made on a different assembly line.

3) Shanghai Botch sensors with impressively replicated packaging sold on Ebay.

The second ones are much cheaper than the first and are fine, but the slightly different spec will often throw CEL codes which will annoy everyone and get you failed during inspection. This is caused by the MB computer programming. Another make could tolerate the same spec just fine.

The third are bad news almost all the time and may simply not work at all.

Now, in the case of a cabin filter, the worst that can happen is lesser oder control. Not the end of the world. IMO, electrical and engine mechanical are not worth the risk of gray market/knockoff/etc channels, but anything else should be fine.
