1996 E300 Black/Grey and Rust :(
Thanks for your help
Now I'm paranoid as H3ll. It started very nicely, smooth.....as it warmed up it sounded a little rough at idle (700 rpm) anything above and it was very smooth. Then on the was in today (after 150 miles of new mounts, fan, fan clutch, radiator and wiper blade - I'm lame I didn't change it myself) I hear this new noise. Sounded like it was coming from the back passengers side at intervals (maybe downshifting) and it was like a faint light saber (yep I'm a geek for not having a better description) noise. First at 40mph slowing down to 35 mph , then another at ~28 mph. Could the new tranny mount be vibrating through the car? Is it hard to screw up a motor mount install or tranny mount install?
thanks
thanks

All is well......for now
My buzzing/light saber noise was a heat shield.
So for anyone searching if your fan hits your radiator go through the check list:
1. check radiator, bottom mount is cheap sheet metal - bend it back in place
2. Motor mounts?
3. Tranny mount
My issue began around 200K on a 12.75 year old car.
thanks again for everyone's help
