Computer/Odometer brightness problem

I have a problem on my 98 E320 where the brightness of the computer readout is progressively brighter from one side to the other. The Time is very bright and the temperature is very dim, I almost can't see it. You can also see the last numbers of the odometer better than the first. Is there any way to adjust the brightness? Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks....

Sounds like one of the bulbs behind the LCD display has burned out. That could be why you have a bright side -----> fading to dark.

How difficult is it to change a bulb behind the LCD display?

Hey there, you need to remove your instrument cluster with kombi hooks, then you'll find three bulbs behind that display - just replace the one that's not working. (P.S. Three are red and three are yellow - replace the yellow ones)

Darrin,

You will have to trust the poster that responded - I have only had my E class for a month, and the cluster was replaced right before I bought it. I have had this problem in my Audi A4, so I knew you had blown bulbs right away.

Do yourself a big favor, and get the correct bulbs before you pull the cluster. The bulbs are special, and you will probably have to get them from the dealer.

michakaveli,

What did you use as your search criteria to find them on EBAY?

Bulbs replacement..

Hey all,

I’ve read all the stories with replacement of bulbs in the cluster..

But it haven’t helped me..
I’ve replaced the bulbs marked with white circles.... that did not help much..
The display is still very dim when it heats up..

Even the red warning lights is dim.. and those bulbs aren’t used that often..

Any ideas ?.. did i replace the wrong bulbs ?

Thanks in advance..
