Annoying problem...

I have a 2000 AMG E55 W210 (facelift).

For the last 3 months every time I get in my car I have had that 'beep' check lamps warning.

I purchased some pattern bulb holders for the rear brake/tail light and fitted them with new bulbs. Still had one light out (drivers side rear)

So I bought some holders from Mercedes again with new bulbs and still had the problem! Now, when I brake my passeneger side front sidelight comes on too. The rear drivers side brakelight still doesnt work!

Any ideas?

It's such a silly problem but one that really gets under my skin!!

i think you need to elaborate a little more. When does it come on? when you press the brake? turn on the lights? Are your lights stock? What is a passenger side front sidelight?

Question

Sorry.

All lights are stock.

The front sidelight (the smaller circular lamp) comes on when I brake.

Also, does anybody know if there rear centre brakelight (in the screen) comes on with the lights? Mine does, but I do notice it gets brighter when I apply the brakes meaning there must be a double filament bulb in it.... or am I going mad....????

my guess would be a bad light housing. Not a common problem on this car but very common on many. I had to replace my rear housings on my Grand Cherokee. The heat from the lamps eventually cause the sockets or the internal circuit boards to crack and the lights operate incorrectly. I've had to play with the bulb holders on my right side a few times to get rid of a malfunction error. That was the first symptom on my other car

So

since everything is the correct way for you and to us the opposite way
it seems like when you changed the lamps the first time you may have grounded a wire and shorted a circuit and now may have two or more wires with insulation burned off that are crossed.Front side markers should not be lighting up when brakes are applied nor should the 3rd brake lamp be lit up when the brakes are not applied.Auto electrician time

unless you are good with a wiring diagram and a digital probe or multimeter.

It wouldn't hurt to pull the tail light assembly out and have a good look at the circuit board..both my E320 W210 needed at least one side replaced. However, I
think oh lord is correct on this one ..shorts somewhere. Also my display kept coming on saying bulb burnt out. All the light s were working, I talked to Mercedes and they said to check license plate and side markers and replace any questionable bulbs..it worked

Yea i would guess just to make sure if there are shorts or not. Maybe a rodent made it into ur car and chewed up some wires???
