Help! code P0455 - P0300 - P0304

1997 E320

Check engine lights have been on for two months but the car was running fine

Could not find problem

Today it got down to low 60s in Florida and the car started to back fire on take off

I have been only getting P0455 and a flashing fuel light which clears itself

Now I am getting P0300 and P0304 with a slight backfire on take off at times

Help!

Please suggest course of action

Cool p0455

you have gros leak on evap emission control system

other two codes:
p0304 that is code for your cylinder #4 misfire detected (could be spark plug )

p 0300 muliple cylinder misfire detected (happend to me once on a diferent car when I was leaning engine)

it may help you to diagnose problem

regards

Don't

ever ignore a check engine light. That is the advice.Even if it seems to be running fine. The gross leak may have created a lean run condition which is now causing a problem with the o2 sensors or even a failed cat converter causing the lean condition misfire on cylinder 4.The only way to be sure is to start at the top of the chain.Check your fuel cap, replace if needed with a new mb cap from the dealer, not the local parts store. Then clear the codes.do you have a code reader?if you are in the states you can pick one up for $39 at http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/retail_stores.taf
they will meet their own internet price if you take the online ad for item #94169
handy little hhs to have for the do it your self mechanic, reads codes, erases reads i/m readiness for smog etc.
once cleared see what comes back. Then we go from there checking for loose or broken evap lines to the charcoal canister, purge valve etc.
you are not in the habit of topping up your fuel tank are you?

last just incase it is a seperate issue check plug 4 plug connector,M104 engines have a problem with those crappy connectors.that is why you always replace them when you do the plugs.OEM plugs, none of those multi tip plugs on that old school engine.

Cap Replaced

I replaced the cap OEM when I first received the P0455 code - No help

Still check engine light - still flashing fuels light occasionally

I have replaced ignition coild three different times over 100K miles

I unfortunately do not know which they were but it seems the issue is with four

Recently replaced plugs and wire when I di last coil 5000k ago

Seems dampness and tempeture drop cause more issues

Car is definitely running as a misfire

Did not clean purge valve enen though I have purchased the cleaner previously reccomeneded

I was afraid to loose the car all together

Low cash - only car

I have not replaced the fuel filter or air filter recently

What is the normal service cycle on these items

PS yes I purchased the computer you reccomended some time ago
