Turning Wheels Causes Awful Groaning Noise
Hey guys,
I think i've attempted to have this problem diagnosed before, but I'm going to try again since this is driving me up the wall and my car is still on warranty until the end of 2009. I have a 2000 E430 4Matic (~60k miles) and for the last few years the car has made this terrible moaning/groaning noise when the steering wheel is moved at low speeds, particularly at a full stop (like when parallel parking). I've taken the car into the dealer and made technicians listen to the noise;however, they claim to not know what is causing the noise.
Has anyone had an issue like this with an E430 4Matic? I think if I went into the dealership with an exact diagnosis of the problem, they wouldn't be able to ignore the warranty work
Any help on the issue would be MUCH appreciated. Other than this weird noise, I have no other issues with the car, it is as good as can be.

I haven't checked the power steering fluid, great idea. Is there an easy way to check this? I'm fairly technically illiterate with my car. I would just slap myself if the fix was this easy (and hope no permanent damage was caused).

Being a 4 Matic yours may be different; normally theres an ~2" long dipstick attached to the underside of the cap.
That ought to be the first thing a tech looks at.....

If you don't know which cap that is, I think it is illustrated in the owner's manual. If that turns out to be the problem, slap that dealer's technicians before you start slapping yourself. You have a warranty and you simply tried to use it!
