Xenon HID color changed on driver side, pass. OK
Hi all,
2000 E320, 60K. on it. Tonight, on the way home, I noticed that the color of the two headlights are different. As I have factory Xenon HID installed the passenger side is slightly blue, as it has always been, however the driver side is just regular color now.
The lamp malfunction indicator on the instrument cluster is not on as the light still works but it has lost the blue hue. I did search but couldn't find anything related to this kind of issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Alex

Hi Alex -
I posted a reply on the Benzworld site. FYI, it's usually not necessary to post your question on more than one site since most active members visit all the popular sites.

Thanks guys.
Actually it looks like I made mistake and the driver side is the good light with the correct color and the passenger side is the one that changed color and it is deep blue now.
I took the bulb out and when I shake it is sounds like the filament inside is broken. I put it back in and it has intermittent contact so it is time for a new bulb.
I ordered it already from Autohausaz for $85.20.

If you change only one xenonburner you will get color difference. your new bulb will be slightly yellowish if it's oem 4100/4300Kelvin. If it's 6000Kelvin it will be whiter/bluer than your oem bulb, even though it is blueish..

Are you saying HID bulbs need to be changed in pairs?
That would an expensive undertaking, are you sure that is the case?
I will replace the OEM with another OEM, why would there be any color difference?

because an arc burner (metal halide) changes color during it's life span.
For a philips 85122 4100K car xenon "bulb" the typical lifespan will be like this:
0-100Hours: Slightly yellow
100-~2000: whiter and slowly fading to a blueish color
2000-: purpleish, pink, red.
When the burner has visible blue/purple light after some time after ignition it is worn out and time to get a new one.
an Osram xenarc 4100K burner may fade more to a greenish color in a reflector based headlight.

no, they
do not have to be replaced in pairs ,but will be better on long run.
I have on mine issue like your .when you turn lights on both are the same for first 30 sec than one side starts to become same as regular white bulb.
That is not ballast it is light bulb which you have to replace.try to get new one which has same output .
..they are expensive but for me OSRAM is better than PHILIPS .
