When/where was a manual tranny offerred with e320?
I believe I asked this question a couple years ago and didn't get much of an answer..so figured I'd try again.
Anybody know what year(s) and in which LHD market(s) was the early w210 e320 (inline-6) available with a manual transmission?

I think all w210s were available with manual transmission, maybe except the ones with the larger engines, like 500 and AMG.
But as automatic trans is standard equipment on a Mercedes it had to be ordered explicitly, and therefore a Mercedes with manual transmission is very hard to find. At least in the European market W210 was available with manual trans.
Maybe not the answer you were looking for, but I can have a look in EPC tomorrow and see if I can find some useful information...

I've a facelift W210 brochure in German and a manual transmission is NOT available with the 320 diesel or the 320 gas engine or any engine larger. Manual transmissions are only for econobox Mercedes, i.e. the four cylinder models. It ought to be obvious that if manual transmissions are not available for AMGs they're considered lower class items in Mercedes-speak.

As a matter of fact, I just did a lookup in EPC, and there is no such thing as manual transmission in the parts database for E320...
The E280, E290DT and E270CDI are the largest engines available with manual transmission

Also, the rest of what you are saying is completely wrong, Mercedes has sold 8-cylinder models, including S and SL models with manual transmissions. Even the W126 and R129 had manual options with 6 cylinder engines. The M104 was paired with a 5-speed manual, but not in a W210, although the E280 was sold with a manual.
The reason MB does not sell a manual in an AMG is that they do not have one to handle the power, it has nothing to do with "prestige". In fact driving an auto would speak more against someone than a real transmission.

So is the e280 based off the m104 block (shared bellhousing pattern), or is it a different casting altogether? Also, which models was the m104 offered in with a manual trans?

Manual transmissions are for "boy racers" and not for folks buying expensive cars. BMW being the exception, of course, but even then their manual trans sales in larger cars are miniscule.

Dot get your point ![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
It's still not a manual transmission.....
back to topic..
The E320 (210.055) uses M104.995
The engine code in the E280 (210.053) is M104.945
So it should be the same engine
The manual transmission for the E280 is 717.441
I can dig a bit deeper in EPC tomorrow to see which models that use the 104 block. Right now I can only use EPC on a slow remote desktop connection...

Then it isn't an E320, is it?

You could get an E320 CDI with a 6 Speed Manual Transmission. I have seen such a vehicle.

I don't remember if I checked for a parts catalogue on manual trans for E320CDI 210.226, but I don't really think it's there.
Anyways, that is a completely different engine and the gearbox from OM613.961 can not be used on a M104.995. It may bolt on with modifications, but the gear ratios would be wrong.

Hey Semi:
Where are you finding these part #'s? I'd like to try put together a list of necessary parts for a 5spd swap (tranny, flywheel, clutch hydraulics, pedal box, etc...)
