transmission filter shelf life?

I have had a transmission filter and a pan gasket sitting in my closet for about 6 or 8 months waiting for the next time I got around to changing my transmission fluid, and I was curious before I put the new filter in: is there a shelf life to how long a transmission filter (and pan gasket) can sit on the shelf dry? If so, how long is it, and should I invest in a new filter?

I think you're good to go. If it doesn't have a stamp on it, there's no shelf life. Strong sunlight would be the only concern since those parts don't usually get much UV, and I can imagine it would damage the silicone gasket.
