w210 shocks

Is there a shock available for our cars that is a bit firmer than the OEM Sachs, but not quite as firm as the Bilstein HD? I know Bilstein makes "comfort" line, but I haven't been able to find any online for the w210.

Are those oem shocks? Not a bad price...

I switched from oem to Bilstein HD's about 120k miles ago, and now that the fronts are starting to leak, I'd like to soften things up a bit.

i;m still with the original factory shocks at 160k miles and don't feel the need yet to change the shocks, ride is still pretty good. the car runs no different than it did 6 years ago. i only changed the stabilizer links and lower ball joints when i thought the ride was getting a little worse and i was hearing a little clunk over bumps, but after that the ride is pretty comfortable and quiet.

At 160K

you have been riding on old shocks so long you have adapted to the ride.New ones would amaze you with the new car ride quality.

Bilstein...

If memory serves, Bilstein makes three shocks for the 210. I've had Bilstein HD's, which greatly improved the ride, added more firmness, but the car still rides like a Benz.

The models were:

Bilstein OEM- soft, stock ride, designed for stock ride height

Bilstein HD - Heavy Duty, firmer ride, designed for stock ride height

Bistein Sport- Firmer ride, designed for cars that have been lowered, approx. more than 1 inch...

There are other brands, Boge, etc..

Called Bilstein USA today...the only shocks they offer for a w210 are HD's and Sports, both with identical valving but hte Sports have a shorter body. I was also told that it is "normal" for Bilsteins to leak a little as they are just "keeping the seals lubricated." The rep said I should only worry once the shocks are leaving puddles. Sounds like BS, but they seem to be working okay for now.

When the time comes, will probably be going back to Sachs.
