Removing the Serpentine belt on a 1996 W210.
Does anyone know how to remove the serpentine belt on a L-6 e320 engine?
Location of the tensioner?
Thanks guys.

I just did the pensioner pulley on my 1997 E320 and I think we have the identical engine. However, a caution here. These M104 engines have had several different styles and versions for the tensioner. The latest version (you should have that) is the easiest and best.
First, look at the picture of the belt diagram in your owner's manual. The tensioner is just below the water pump pulley.
Next, you do need to remove the fan shroud. There is no need to remove the fan clutch nor the fan blades but it will be a little tight and be careful not to damage the radiator fins.
Your tensioner should have a 15 mm nut in the center of the pulley. Put a socket on and a long breaker bar on it and turn CLOCKWISE (kind of strange but that is the direction). That should loosen the tension and you can pull the belt off.

The noise may not be from the belt.
It might be from one of the pulley bearings.
The common ones to fail are the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley or even the tensioner itself..
How many miles on the engine?

My car odo clocks in at 180, *** miles and still running like a champ ![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)
The reason i say its the belt is because when i spray the conditioner it stops squeaking but then a day later it starts up again.
