Oil Leak

Hi, directly under my oil filter housing, there seems to be an oil leak. I was told that this gasket o ring i think... is a very very common oil leak among mercedes.

Can anyone give me the exact name of the area or function, or have an idea of what part it is so that i can order it and get it replaced.

you mean the rubber black o-ring that goes in the oil filter cap? when did you change the oil last time? maybe forgot to put the o-ring there or forgot to change the old one when changing the filter. if that's the case i would just buy the cheapest paper filter from any autostore since the filters usually come with the o-rings, and place the new o-ring in the oil filter cap.

No, its actually just below the oil filter housing, sort of next to the belts.

i see. from your description of the serpentine belt being located under the oil filter housing i'm guessing you have the m112 or m113. in my m104 the filter housing is located behind the engine and it makes it a lot harder to see what's happening under it, but i'm glad mine is not leaking. ask the person who told you that leak is common from that area and if it's something little i would just have the mechanic deal with it. http://w210.pietrzyk.net/enginesm112.htm
i would clean the area good with some brake cleaner first and see if there is oil the next day or so. did you top it off with oil recently or had an oil change? maybe a little oil spilled and accumulated there.

dear benz owners,
i really need your help. I think my car has also been suffering form this leak due to the oil pressure port. But can any one of you please tell me where the oil pressure port is located. From the description above, i know its located somewhere near the belts in front of the engine. But i do not know exactly where the thing is situated. Yeah almost forgot to mention i have an e240 with an M112 engine. It's a V6. Thanks in advance.
