Electrical Consumers Switched Off

I am seeing this sign on the odometer everyday now. "Electrical Consumers Switched Off". I will come on and go off and then come on again.

Where can I start to diagnose this what could be causing this?

Thanks

googling....

"when the supply battery drops voltage the car shuts down non-essential electrics (heated seats, int. lights etc.) and displays the consumer shut down message.
charge the supply battery (the one in the boot) and see how it goes. If it still happens it may need a software update to the battery control unit or may have a faulty component causing current draw. Either way a trip to the main dealer will be requied if charging the battery fails."

Do you have a W211 2003?

If a w211, your aux battery that the w210 does not require is going bad.
So what year and model is your car?

I had this issue after the dealer did a check of the primary and backup batteries. (The backup battery was on its way out they are expensive little suckers!). A bit of alternator whine that can come when it is working hard made me suspicious that they had messed up.
I went looking for a cause of high load on the alternator and started at the main battery. Yup! They had not tighten down the clamp on the negative terminal. I tightened it up and the issue is resolved.
