Service B cost?
Guys,
Information came up on the dash after I purchased the car and took it to the stealership that my car needs a service B scheduled. Claims its 3800 miles overdue. Any idea on what a service B is and the costs?

that all depends on the dealer. it avgs $400, but depending on what they
(ohmygosh....lookihere!) find, they may discover other issues which need
to be attended to. natch, that'll jack things up a bit.

Matt, quick question about your purchase. Was it a CPO car? If so, then the dealership should have been made to do the service before resale, according the CPO guidelines. Also, Raymond is right, depending on the dealer Service B averages around $400-$500.

When I purchased the car I viewed the carfax and apparently it was a lease at one time and I saw that it was sold once as a CPO around 27k miles and I bought it was 70K miles. I didn't purchase it from a MB dealership though. Also, do I have to take the car to the MB dealership for the Service B or can I take it elsewhere that services mercedes?

Most any reputable indie shop can do a Service B. 50% of the items are just routine (check for leaks, broken / wornout parts, etc)
The shop I use does all the important "Inspections" for free once a year.
No they don't do all the picky little stuff and it's not a full Service B, but much of Service B you can do yourself.
Look in your manual, do all the stuff you are comfortable doing yourself and use the search function on these forums for advice for things you are not sure about.
Evaluate whats left over and ask yourself whats really necessary maintenance vs. something designed to teather you to the dealer.
There is absolutely no reason to fork over $400 - $500 for what amounts to an oil change, a few squirts of lubricant, a saftey inspection, and a lot of checking of things that frankly don't need professional checking.
