EIS lock up

EIS lock up
Great start to A.M. - Going to work, put key in ignition - nothing! Had no prob. day before. Of course tried other key, would not unlock to start. Called indy shop who said he could not fix it due to MB wont allow him to order parts due to security issues nothing he could do but he gave me a number to another indy shop close to me in Memphis. Called them, he said sounded like EIS lock up, rare but happens (even though I did see this on the list of common W210 probs!!) Got it towed there to get diagnosis. Mechanic there told me that at the most they would have to replace the "computer" that controlled this, may cost $900 and I have to bring proof of ownership. This sound outragous to me, even under a dealership price- plus I have got to get this humming checked out that is prob. differential issue and as most people now, financially, this is not good timing. Any suggestions on if this price, if it comes down to it, sound right??

Well, got report back from shop, keys fine - got to get a new EIS $$$$$ he's checking on price but most likely over 900$, really sucks since I only got 114,000 miles on it!!!! Had an issue with my ignition lock on my 99 boxster one time, just missed the warranty by like 100 miles, wouldn't start, finally got it some how to start and drove to dealership and it was totally shot,would not re-crank and total repair was like $200 at the most, but it is what it is.

Total cost was $1400.00. Absolutely incrediable. But had no choice. There was only 2 places in memphis to get this done, and one was the dealership. The dealership in memphis never called me back after 2 calls. They could care less unless the car is a year old or so.
I also had some strange noise that no one could diagnoise, but the shop told me that the cats were going out. After much research, $600 was the cheapest, a piece and needed new rotors, SOLD the car!!!!
5 days after I sold the car, the gentleman that bought the car called me and the transmission went out!!! Had around 120,000 on the odometer. Had the transmission fluid checked TWICE in the 4 months before I sold her and every thing was find according to indy shop!!! Though I talked to shop owner and said he would call the guy ( the gentleman took the car to the indy shop I used) and vow for me. I felt bad - though I honestly had no idea - Good luck with your W210's ladies and gentleman! No more for me, HONDA
