Leaking oil and coolant - Suggestions?

Leaking oil and coolant - Suggestions?

Hi,

I got a 98 E320 Wagon with 72,000 miles and I've recently been losing coolant and a lot of oil. I had the last oil change 4000 miles ago and I was driving on the highway yesterday and the oil minimum sign came on. Just last week I added a half quart when I was driving on the highway also.

So today I took a peek and I removed the plastic cover guard underneath the engine (which is what you remove when doing an oil change) and found a lot of green fluid which I'm thinking is coolant (since I've been adding it) and oil.

From the top of the engine everything looks good, no leaks and all but from underneath I can see a lot of fluid loss here and there.

I'm not sure what the problem is or how big it is.

Also I'm not sure if this is related to the problem but for a while now I've been noticing the RPM stick fluctuates a lot instead of being steady and firm at a speed (example when I decelerate it goes down then rises a little then goes down a little further then rises a little and so on...)

Any ideas guys (and gals)? Also is this a fix I can do in my own garage or will it have to go the shop?

Thanks and Happy Easter (if you celebrate it )

oil and coolant

First off all wash your engine thoroughly with a engine cleaner "purple blaster " or something similar .

Dry it with an air compressor , put the car on a lift and start the engine .

Start with your diagnosis , good luck.

Lubricating oil - maybe the lubricating swtich.
coolant - maybe a hose or an hole in your radiator.

Check hoses and water pump, I think there might a RECALL or TSB about something that Ohlord mentioned a while ago that is similar to this issue.

Plan on a new water pump. Using the green crap accelerates corrosion and leads to leaks like this. Aluminum parts require different coolant.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Also

you don't remove the belly pan to change oil.
You do it the proper way. You suck it out via the dipstick tube.
Diy on mercedesshop.com resource section diy oil change #2 w210 chassis

As above clean the engine.Flush the readitor and put in Zerex GO5 and run a simple test strip for combustion gas in the coolant,to rule out a engine head failure.
!998 were prone to excessive oil consumption, you may have lucked out and gotten one of them that requires continual oil changes
