EC Light On

The codes read PO 170 and PO 173 which is "fuel trim malfunction bank 1 and bank 2". I don't have a clue where to start looking. I think I need a decoding chart to decode the code chart. Any Ideas as to where I should start? I did add Technon (sp) fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank but I haven't driven it yet and I really don't expect any results.

A search will reveal numerous hits, most of which will tell you to clean your MAF first, and if that doesn't work, replace it.

PS: I did both and neither worked (bought the MAF for $150). I'm replacing all 4 O2 sensors as soon as I get parts from Autohausaz.com (I have 170,000 miles and crappy gas mileage). I have a feeling this might help with my 170 and 173 codes. We'll see.

I'm assuming you mean CEL not EC light? EC being the AC system indicative of a compressor issue typically.

Start with cleaning the MAF with CRC MAF spray cleaner. No substitute.

*edit*
TA= slow typer
RM= fast typer

Yes, I meant the check engine light, I am really bad with abbreviations so I have to ask what is the MAF and where is it located? Is CRC the brand of cleaner?

OK, it means mass air flow sensor and I think it is in the air cleaner ducting, right?

Right. It's that black snorkel past your air filter (I think Benzworld.org has a good tutorial on how to clean it). Just loosen a couple of o-clamps and a connector and the unit's off. There is a certain technique in cleaning it so again, go to the other forum and look at their tutorial.

CRC is a brand name; is avail at most parts stores. Will evaporate leaving no film or coating.

MAF

I had the fuel trim codes errors also. I attempted to clean it. I reset the check engine light but it would come on 20 miles later. I purchased a new one and it cleared it up!

Many thanks to all that responded to my query, I went to the other site and printed the pictorial for cleaning/replacing the MAF sensor and of course it was a piece of cake. I used CRC cleaner and erased the codes and so far the CEL has not come on but I know that it may come back on in a week or two in which case I will have to replace the sensor.
Yesterday I couldn't even spell MAF sensor and today I are a expert technician! Thanks again guys.
