I performed his test off turning the wheels completly to each directiion and gave her some acceleration the engie moves about 2-3" each directiion should it move at all??
Use a feeler gauge to measure. I used a socket whose OD was 13mm.
If the gear selector moves or vibrates the shifter bushing beneath the car is prob worn. Mine is Green.

AMG E55, E430 and E320 all use same bushing which is green. It can be accessed from beneath by reaching on top of the tranny for the single arm and removing the clip holding the rod from the tranny into the lower rod arm from the shifter. It is easiest to remove the shifter assembly and from the inside of the car lift the rod up gently through the floor cut out and remove the clip. The green bushing will be immediately visible at the end of the lower shifter arm on the shifter assembly. A couple of bucks at the stealership. Whole job should take 30 minutes or so. A 2 on the 1-5 scale of DIY jobs.
