Check engine light
00 E430 sport 104k Have not driven the car for a week. then on saturday i drove it on the highway for about an hour all of a sudden Check Engine Light came on so i stopped by the nearest autozone to borrow there code reader no code. went home disconnected the battery over night Check Engine Light still on. Sunday i went to a mercedes specialist they plugged in there code reader nothing. they disconnected the battery also but the CEL still stay on. This is bugging me..anyways the car drives fine feels the same as always no leaks new o2 sensors new tranny fluid new plugs basically i just did a 100k service couple weeks back. the specialist even told me to take it to the dealer becasue they cant figure(the car was there for 8hrs free no charge lucky.) why the CEL came on with no codes. So before i take it in to the stealers i was wondering if anyone had this issue before....

Is there a code pending?
If not, stop disconnecting the battery all it does is mess with other systems and does not clear a code. PM Mark Cummins he is a member down in HB and he probably knows of someone in the area with SDS machine. That will get to the root of the problem.
Could be a short in the cluster.

What good timing. The light came on for me yesterday. But it was also accompanied by a message about 'engine electronics'. Scared the heck out of me since I was in heavy traffic on the highway but it seemed to run okay.

Well, got in the car this morning and no warning lights. The CEL had gone away. Of course there's no telling what will happen later.

Get
a scanner 94169 at harborfreight tools and read your code. Even though the light went out the code will be stored as pending. Could have been a temporary condition or a loose gas cap.But it could also be a precursor to something more.
If it comes on again, don't ignore it just because it seems to be running fine. At times a cel means not much, at others ignoring it can lead to costly repairs.

Mercedes
I agree, always know exactly what codes your Mercedes computer is storing.
ALLDATAdiy.com compliments a scanner very well. Your Codes can be identified and diagnosed without having to pay outrageous diagnostic fees at the dealership. All of the electrical values and testing procedures are included in the product.
