Can't Find the Radio Amplifier

All 4 of the rear seat speakers in my 1997 E320 are not working. The front speakers work fine. The fader control will control the front speakers but doesn't effect the rear speakers. The speakers themselves seem to be OK and can't find any loose connections or bare wires. The most likely thing (I think) is the amplifier. This is the stock Becker Radio not the Bose version. According to the Becker website there is an amplifier mounted on the driver's side trunk wall next to the trunk lid hinge. Becker lists the amp as an exchange item. My problem is I can't get to it without removing the trunk liner on that side and I can't figure out how to get it out. There must be some clips I can't see or some maneuver to get the liner loose that eludes me. I guess I could just strong-arm it out but there must be an easier way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the stock amp is located on the passenger side C pillar.

Rander, I'm bringing up this "extremely" old thread... I'm getting ready to embark on an entirely new system and I'm looking for feedback.

Amplifier

The amplifier is hidden under the panel that is right below the left trunk hinge. If the upholstered panel wasn't there then water could almost drip right on the amplifier from the hinge. This is not the same as the flat panel on top of the spare tire. It is a curved panel.

Anybody have a picture of the stock non-bose amp with the panel removed?

I could be wrong...I have been before...but if you don't have Bose, you don't have a separate amplifier??

If that's the case, I'm going to have to run all the speakers wires as the amp will most likely be in the trunk.
