Does ESP affect acceleration?

I was in my E430 sport racing my friend's E420, and I beat him off the line despite ESP being on.

Does the ESP affect acceleration off the line?
How about the Gear, I mean does the ECU react differently if you are in 4 instead of D??

-thx

HI,

By how much did u beat the E420? I am always wondering since E430 and E420 has identical HP. is the E430 really faster?

I guess ESP will affect acceleration depending on the road condition. If its totally dry road, then ESP will have no effect.

Very strange.. Maybe there is something wrong with your friends E420 I raced a 99 E430 once and stayed head to head till 110 then we both slowed down

2006 E500 4matic Wagon
O.k. First off, you know that you should really never race anyone off the line, unless he's another Benz? When I had my 2000 E430 4matic, I was regularly smoked.

ESP off the line limits you in terms of wheel spin. I was always screwed in the 4matic, but if you shut ESP off and do a brake stand, you should get some bang for you buck and make some noise.

What year was your buddy's 420? The curb weight differs. A 2000 E430 is lighter than a 1997 E420. Did your competitor drive w124? I'd be surprised to hear if you beat a 1995 E420, for example, since that powerplant IS different from the 430 in terms of spark.

Happy racing!

BenzE - thanks that really was my question.

Next time I will shut off ESP.

MY buddy was driving a 97 E420 FYI.

We were racing down the streets of westwood, so we could hit about 40 before the next stop light, not much of a race.
