2000 E320 4 matic Question

All

I am curious about the inner front axle boots on the front axles. I took a hard look at them and both of them look like they are split in the same location. The questions is whether these inner boots (closest to the tranny) are supposed to be a two piece design or not.

The split if you can call it that is a clean flat (surface to surface) and there doesnt seem to be any loss of lube what so ever. There are no trails of lube on the frame, on the ground or anywhere else. In fact the only reason I saw the separation was because I put front shocks on it this week end. Yes there is lube in there.

If they need replacement because they are a once piece design, are the boots available seperatley, or are the stealers going to to tell me that I need to buy complete front axles. There is no U joint noise of any sort coming from the front end under hard accelleration going straight or if in the middle of a turn.

I just want to nip it in the bud... keep my costs down. Car has 150K and has run like a champ since I bought it...sure it had a few minor issues but nothing in comparrison to American Iron less than half it's age.

Thanking you all in advance

Inner boots are not as important

as the outer ones since these do not really stretch or twist as much as the outer ones do. It's scary to see them with steering at full lock! I had both mine replaced just on time. The parts come as a kit with both boots per axle.
I ordered them from autohausAZ and had indy install them for about $200 per axle. Hope that helps.

Cheers

Many thanks for your input.... as I said the way the inners are cut it almost appears as though this was design intent. Looking at the PDF it is very clear that my two inners need to be replaced. My thanks for you input and information relative to replacement parts.

Regards
