HELP Transmission Problem?
My brother left the sunroof open in his e320 during a torrential downpour. The car still starts but will not go above 60 mph and will redline at that speed (does not seem to go to next gear!?). The automatic stick was exposed to the rain, does anybody know why this car goes no faster than 60 and redlines there (I don't know much about cars, but apparently it is not the ATF because my father changed that and it made no difference)?

What year w210
the water fried the shift module. PM me if you want to try and save it and we can talk on the phone for solutions. If drying does not work deplending on the year a member has a module on sale or I can get you used with a warranty.
Diy r/r is on www.benzworld.org w210 diy section.
You are not the first nor will you be the last.
Water and soda and coffee do not mix with mb shift modules. your trans is stuck in 2nd gear. Stop driving it till we talk about drying it out or at least attempting it.

Bseides the module
which the problem is the water that got into it. I sure hope your dad used mb fluid made for the 5speed 722.6 trans and measured it properly with the special dip stick. If not you will have more problems than just replacing the shift module.
Sorry
Sorry
What do I do next?
I posted before and found out that the reason why my e320 wouldn't shift up after 2nd gear after my brother left the sunroof open during a rainstorm was b/c the shift module got damaged. So I looked at the DIY section and have gotten to this point (see below photos).
Where exactly is shift module?
How can I repair it (can I)?
How do I replace it (does anyone have any deals, know anybody)?
What should I do?

I don't get it
I went to the DIY forum but it only talks about removing that entire shifter assembly (what exactly is that whole assembly I have in piture called so I know where how to buy replacement part?); It does not saying anything about reaching the module chip or really how to clean it; so can someone tell me how to do this, I can't see how to replace cover with the gear letters on it somebody plz help me with this.
The next step
I have separated the components of the shifter assembly; there is no chip is that location as the DIY shows, so where do I clean in the components I am looking at the black part with the LEDS for the gear numbers but that all it appears to be: LEDS dor the shift numbers.... where is the module I am to clean?

yOU
NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE UNIT.
You can't really take it apart to clean and dry it.
If it was going to work it would have dried with a fan blowing on it but since you said you drove it a fair distance I am pretty sure it is fried and you get a used one and reverse the removal procedure and replace it.Then drive.

Sorry about your fried module. I fried mine twice, once at 15k miles (coffee), and once at 35k -- my daughter kicked my cup of OJ over while climbing over driver seat to shotgun seat). Dealer replaced both times under warranty but said there would be no 3rd time... it would be out of my pocket.
Mercedes really messed up this design by putting a cupholder 4" away from an open electronic component... why they left it open I have no idea, because it is susceptible to common spills from the cupholder, as well as rain coming in from window the sunroof being mistakenly left open over night.
