An E320 I looked at today...

I was test driving some BMW's today, 540i's. Neither of which were good. I stop by an official Mercedes dealer and he has an '01 E320 for sale. 110k miles, professor owned, silver exterior with gray interior. Very nice looking. There appears to be some rust on the inside of the rear right wheel well. I test drove this car, very smooth.

On the highway, when I was going about 55-60 mph, when I gave it a little gas, a whining noise came from the back. I let off the gas, it goes away. Other than that, pretty good. The sales guy said he would have it looked at and he will call me back.

Other than that, I'm not too familiar with these cars. Even though my friend has a '99 E320, and my cousin has a '98 E430, both black. I would really like something with a V8 though. How is the reliability on these cars?

2001 E320 RWD - Brilliant Silver/Ash: 100,000+
Your friend and cousins have pre-facelift cars but their opinions are still relevant. If that 2001 E320 has been properly maintained according to the book, it should be as reliable as any BMW. I prefer a V8 too and if you keep looking, you'll see those for sale. I'd advise you buy a one owner 2002 RWD with low miles that comes with a complete service history.

Well, here's an update. The silver one was sold before I could act on it. But I did find a better one, I think. This is a 2000 E320, with 74k miles. Black ext/black int. Xenons, heated seats, all that good stuff. Test drove it today with my dad, runs great. But, there is a check engine light. I asked the dealer what its for, he said oxygen sensor. He said he will get it replaced on Thursday. Sounds good then. It is $9995.

What do you guys think? There is a small dent however, right near the passenger side low beam headlight. Not a big deal on an otherwise perfect looking car. I trust this dealer, he's been in business a long time, he sells cars pretty fast, and none of his cars are salvaged. My parents did buy a '99 Dodge minivan from him about 8 years ago, 150k on it now and it runs great. So I think its safe to say this Merc will be the same.

EDIT: There is some pixels missing on the right side of the cluster, I think its supposed to display the time? Is that a big deal? How expensive/easy of a fix is this?

The price sounds about right, depending on the market where you are and 74,000 is nothing in my opinion. There are 4 oxygen sensors by the way.

Missing pixels are a common problem on the W210. On the right (tachometer) there is a gear indicator and the clock. On the left (speedometer) there is the outside temperature. Some people have fixed theirs but the best solution is to have the cluster rebuilt or replaced.

Good luck if you buy it.

Is there a reason why you didn't just post your own new thread, instead of replying to this other, virtually unrelated thread?
