Flashing gas light followed by check engine electronics
I got the code at autozone: P0455
From what I read here, first thing to do is to change the gas cap, right? But then if I do that, and it fixes my problem, will the 'check engine' light go away by itself? If so, how long would it take?
what else could cause this error? I did nothing special lately with the car, we just had a lot of rain and its very humid (not so common here)

Large leak evap system
Usually just make sure the gas cap is on properly or gently pry the gasket out of the cap and flip it over to a good side. Then put it back on properly. When the ecu checks the emissions system again the light will clear itself if the problem is fixed. If not purchase a new cap from the dealer or autohausaz.com generic auto parts store caps are poor substitutes to the oem cap.

It went away
because you got the new cap. Once the system went through enough clear drive cycles it cleared the code and the pending codes. That is the way the system is designed.
