2005 SL 500, 2001 E430, 2003 GMC Sierra
Bulb out error message
I have a 2001 E430 Sport that periodically gives me a bulb out message when I apply the brakes. The bulbs are good, I've cleaned the bulb terminals, the bulb sockets and the terminals at the main taillight connectors as well as where the bulb sockets contact the circuit board and I've applied a good electronic contact cleaner/lube to all, but every few weeks the bulb warning pops on...then disappears. The third brake light is operating and those terminals cleaned, too. Very annoying. Any ideas? The dealer wanted to replace both taillights but that seems like overkill.

try searching this forum under "brake light error" or some variation. this is a weak point in
the 210s and well documented with tips and options. sadly, you're not the first to encounter this.

I had this problem and resolved it by following this tip. Insert the socket/bulb into the holder and turn it until it seats. Then counter rotate it just a little (5-10 degrees?) to establish a slightly different contact point. I did this about a year ago and haven't had a false error since. Good luck.
