Rear subframe bushings

My E is sort of "shaking it's @ss" (car feels kinda stepping aside in the rear) whenever I roll over a ridge or speedbump. My indie showed me the rear subframe bushings/rubbers are worn out and need replacement. They quoted about €275.- for the job. Is that about right?

I'would say

the quotation sounds about right to me, not being familiar with the repair details. Do they have to completely remove the subframe with suspension and everything else? I do know the car should get the brand new feel again. Sorry for not being of much help.

Cheers

They said they will do one side after another. That way they only need to detach a few things and not the entire subframe, differential, suspension, brakelines, etc. They can lower each side of the subframe a few inches, just enough to force the old bushings out. MB supplies complete kits with new bolts, spacers etc.

That sounds like very reasonable

way of doing it. I would consider doing that to my estate eventually, even though still running fine but I guess there can be a great improvement on feel.

Picked the car up the other day and indeed it does have the all new feeling! It's also more silent now. Apparantly these bushings sagg very graduatly and you get used to it, to the point you're thinking 'maybe something's off?' Should've done this much earlier!

Glad to hear that

Haven't heard from any US forum member doing it yet. Thanks for reporting back and enjoy your "new life."

Cheers
