2003 e320 wagon (210 chassis NOT a 211))
need an audio30 HU, which one?

Sorry for cross-posting (I put this in the audio forum too) but I thought maybe some w210 owners would have been through this already...

Does it matter which Audio30 head unit I buy for my 2002 w210 wagon?

My used w210 needs a new head unit. The original OEM one is missing and a POS is in its place. I want original OEM looks and functionality.

There are several audio30 units on ebay, but so many different part numbers... Becker vs. Alpine and 3 or 4 models each, and they all look the same.

Are any of them not compatible with my car?
So far these seem identical on the face:
Alpine:
CM1910 mbz p/n: A 208 820 11 86
CM2299 mbz p/n: A 208 820 05 86
Becker:
BE 3302 mbz p/n: A 208 820 01 86
BE 3309 mbz p/n: A 208 820 10 86
BE 6003 mbz p/n: A 208 820 14 86
Others?

This web site http://carstereohelp.com/mercedes.htm says that the be3302 and be3309 are "not interchangeable in Mercedes Benz." If true, that statement has me worried that some other p/n's are not compatible with all D2B-equiped w210's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to order one asap!<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message -->

Try calling Beckerautosound.com at 201-773-0976. They might be able to answer your question.

A lot of the units are not

so be sure before you order from ebay.
I have a watt boosted audio 30 becker tape head unit BE 3309 mbz p/n: A 208 820 10 86 from an 00 wagon in top condition for sale.
For an extra 100 you can have becker add a ipod,mp3,sat port.

or I could ship it to them and have it done at discount.

You might want

to consider the Monza. I'ts a European model that has CD and MP3. It's been discontinued but you can find them in eBay.de for cheap money.

Here's a description:

Just learned about them today and I'm planning on getting one.

Hope it helps.

Pricey unit

Since the audio30 plays mp3's when burned and loaded into your cd changer. Why spend 5bills to do the same thing?

The audio30 does not play mp3 files. You have to convert them to standard CD audio format (aka .wav or pcm) from mp3 using something like iTunes. You can only fit an hour or so of music on a CD this way. If it really played mp3 files you could fit 10+ hours of music on one CD.

This link I posted for unit specs only. It's a discontinued product and can be found used for cheap money on eBay.de.

Somehow missed this post... sorry.

What does "watt boosted" mean? Seems like power in the HU doesn't matter since I have the Bose amp.... ?

the audio circuit

has been modified for cleaner sound to make up for the crappy am circuit.
Don't use metallic tint in the windows.Make sure you am/fm diversity circuit is in good shape above the flap in the headliner. What was installed in place of the oem hu in your wagon? And did they leave all the stock harness to return it back
to stock?

Interesting. Why call it "watt boosted" then? That implies something to do with the amplifiers, not the tuners. Who did the mod? Is there a website explaining it?

Front windows and windshield are not tinted. All the back windows are, no idea what kind of tint.

Which flap where in the headliner? The headliner's a large area...

It's one of the previous Becker models from an older e-class. I don't recall the part/model number right now. I pulled it out and the original harness is there, but looks like they may have modified it to make the older crappier radio work. Strange they didn't just get the right radio for it, if it needed replacing. Someone probably just had one of these older ones in hand/stock, and made it work. We were so enamored with the overall quality of the car otherwise, that we didn't even notice the radio (nor did our mechanic). I'm a little annoyed at myself and the mechanic for not noticing, but oh well. There are a couple other little things that are wrong as well that I didn't notice, nor the mechanic, but they are all low priority (like the door locks doing weird things, the IR control not working, etc.) But that's another post for another time. :-)

I just hope they didn't F#@& with the rest of the wiring, and that if I hook up the D2B cable it will work. We'll see... this may be a big annoying project. Just don't know yet. First thing is to get an audio30 so I can start trouble shooting.

I was a Radarman electronics warfare specialist so I still do all my own radio work and Led design and car electronics and wiring.Courtesy of the U.S. government

The am/fm diversity amp circuit is located above the window antenna on the drivers side headliner.Along that black trim felt.See the little door?

You could take a picture of the wire harness and compare it with a known good system.
