The 4Matic system is full-time 4 wheel drive. About 40% to front wheels and 60% to rear. When you have time, definitely track down an OM since they are almost indispensible for these cars. You may notice a 'W - S' switch next to the shifter. This switch will cause the transmission to start in 2nd gear when in the 'W' position which is helpful for starting up on icy or snow packed roads.

Good luck.

Get some real

snow tires like winter slaloms or blizzteks the 4matic will go through anything the Pa. winter throws at you.
You can get the manual for the car online at mbusa
wiki 4matic second generation on google and you will find a nice explanation of how it and all the differentials operate
