Transmission noises in park and neutral on 98 E430
Just started today, when in park or neutral only, the car makes some loud noises which seem to be coming from the under the car (transmission i'm assuming)
The sounds are kind of like metal grinding, it's hard to explain...it started all of a sudden out of no where.
Went to check the fluid but for some reason there wasn't a dipstick.
Could it be low fluid or does it sound like something else?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

does it sound like a rattling noise? like rocks in a coffee can or something of the sort? More than likely one of your catalysts is coming apart inside the exhaust..
