If it is like the homelink on my mirror with the three buttons it is easy. first to clear the codes stored, press and hold the two outer buttons at the same time until the light starts blinking fast (could be 20 seconds or more).
then aim your garage door opener at the homelink buttons and press and hold the opener's button and the first button on the visor until the light starts blinking fast on the visor. your visor should now be programmed.
There is a different method for a GDO with rolling codes, but I am not sure how that works.
Hope this helps!

Many people have expressed problems programming the system via their garage door remotes. I too had difficulty.
An alternative method that works for many is to just put the garage door opener system into 'learn' mode and then press one of the buttons on the visor. Worked great for me.

If there's a learn mode on the gdo, that means it's got rolling codes -- most recent ones do. The owner's manual of the gdo will show you where the "learn" button is. You can find most of them online, btw, if you no longer have yours.
Easier by far w/ two people, btw. One on the ladder by the learn button, one in the car.
You don't say what year your car is. The setup from the mb side is on about p. 84 of my user's manual. it'll be in yours as well. Including mention of rolling codes how-to.

For a Chamberlain and many of their clones there is no need for two people. Just press the learn button, walk back to the car and press the button on the visor. You have several seconds before the learn mode times out.
Here's a link to their site:

Also, check out the Homelink section where you can enter your car/model/year for some specific instructions.
Good luck.
