vibrating noise
hello everyone, first time user.
i have been reading this forum for quite some time and feel it has been very helpful. anyway, i dont have a "beast", just a 320.
my question is that when i drive around 38-40mph ,i hear a vibration noise from the engine. it only occurs during this speed if i maintain it, however any other speed , the noise disappears. any ideas on what is going on and how to alleviate it.

As far as the vibration not really sure my self what that could be but you may also want to post this issue to the tech forum and maybe mbtech can see what that problem is.
P.S. Don't worry about not having a beast it's still a Benz!

Is the vibration dependent on car speed, or on engine speed? To find out, try maintaining 38-40 mph with the trans in first, then second, then third gear. If you have the same vibration in all gears, it's dependent on car speed, which means you should start by looking at tires and wheels and work your way toward the transmission. Usual suspects are uneven or low tire pressures, unbalanced tires, or dinged wheels.
If you only notice the vibration at 38-40 mph in a certain gear, it's likely dependent on engine speed (RPMs), and you'll want to begin your diagnostics at the engine and work your way toward the transmission. Usual suspects are tune-up items (plugs, wires, fluid, filters), but there are lots of other $¢ary and expen$ive possibilities.
