E430 Steering Question

I have an E430 Sport and during low speed turning of the wheel I get a hum/vibration through the steering wheel, particularly when cold, intermitently. It is a difficult sensation/sound to describe, but it is almost like a rubbing sensation during a portion of the steering wheel rotation.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Any thoughts on cause?

Yes I have had the same problem on my 2000 E430. The dealer said that the steering linkage can get gummed up giving you a sensation that the wheel is not turning freely. They were able to clean it out and it worked fine.

Down where you live in sunny southern cal it may not be! However in not so sunny upstate new york the dealer said it does happen. As a matter of fact, I had it done a year ago and now that we're in the middle of winter again I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I'll have to have it looked at again to confirm.

Hate to say it, but mine too! The problem comes and goes though. Like bcapp pointed out, it only happens in winter times, and after the car is totally warm up, usually at the very last left turn when I get home. Totally forgot about it the next day when I take the car out. Too happy to get to drive the car.

I have the same problem on my 2000 E430 4Matic. This problem was fixed by changing a bushing in the steering column. However, I have problems with the out of alignment steering. The dealer has been working on this problem for more that a year now but still cannot rectify it.
