Hi and Welcome -
Usually when the check engine light (CEL) comes on it means that one or more DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) have been stored by the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) System. They are primarily associated with the emissions control systems.
If you interested you can get an inexpensive OBD II Scanner, read the codes and then post them here for interpretation. That would be the best approach if you have any intention of doing your own repairs. Sometimes the conditions which caused the CEL are temporary. In that case, the CEL may go off after a couple of drive cycles. In any event, it's a good idea to record the pending codes, clear them and check again in a couple of days to see what has returned.

Most any reputable independent MB mechanic will have a good scanner and can read the codes and do the necessary repairs.
