Question Help...E320 Beeping

Hi,
I was hoping some knowledgeable posters could help me out.

I have a small but loud problem. Every time I turn on the ignition in my 2000 Mercedes Benz E320, it immediately makes one very loud beep that lasts about 2 seconds.

It is preowned, and has been taken to the dealer twice to get a new key and change the air conditioning hose. I didn't take it, my father did and the beeping doesn't bother him so he didn't mention it. No one at the dealership told him anything was wrong so I'm assuming the beeping is not necessarily indicating something is wrong.

I have looked in the owner's manual and could not find what is causing it. If there is any way to turn it off or make it quieter, if someone has had this problem or knows something about it - I would really appreciate your advice.

Thanks so much in advance for your replies

Hello and Welcome to the forum -

I've never heard of that particular problem with one of these cars but that's not saying it isn't possible. Usually a beep is designed to provide some sort of alert. Generally, the only thing making noise at that point is the seat belt warning alert and it's not too loud and lasts for about 10-15 seconds.

One thing you could do is check the invoice from your last visit to the dealer and find the Service Advisor on it. Call him/her and ask them if they know what it is. If not ask them to check with one of the technicians.

Hang around. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Good luck.

i believe that is from the phone which apparently has now been disconnected. you described it as beeping, but if i'm correct, it's a harmonized dual tone come from up front, high speaker(s)

afterthought: is it really a high frequency beep or more of a medium freq dual tone?

From your great description I realized it did sound like a dual tone rather than a beep. After I told my father about it he managed to connect the phone. I don't have to listen to it anymore! Thank you so much raymond g- !

So what if it is a high frequency beep randomly emitting from the speakers?
