i believe Dep has used two designs for the rear hatch. one is a large, oval race
track looking lid which spans both high and low beam units. it is retained via
wire latches.

the other design used by Depo is a round threaded flat cap which only covers
the larger, low beam unit.

sounds like ghaffer has the latter design. mine was the oval hatch and I simply
needed to notch the lid and allow the high voltage lead to pass through. I
fitted an O-ring as well and that has worked well for over 2 yrs.

I finally finished the retrofit for my friend. Installed and aimed by 2am. haha The drivers side rotation is a bit off and also has more color at the cutoff than the passenger side, but besides that, its very nice. You can spot the blue flicker blocks ahead, especially on white street signs and other people's license plates.

edit: ohh yeah and the drivers bixenon solenoid decided to stop working after we put everything back together. :S Its not the wiring either as I tested everything with a multimeter.

It's definitely nice to put those DEPO retrofits in...:^_^: It literally shaves DECADES off the look of our W210s! As far as the solenoid problem goes, have you checked whether or not the shield is sticking or catching anywhere? I had the same problem, as the shield was stuck because I was trying to do a "shield mod". This is not necessary if you swap with a set of clear ZKW-R lenses.

Yea it definitely does update the look. The factory HIDs were barely any better than halogens in a fluted lens. With the projectors, its like daylight. You can't even see the HID fogs from behind the wheel anymore. I actually chose to run 55w 6000k. The 55w helped wash the color out a tad and the color is brilliant. Its far from blue, but not quite yellow either.... besides at the cutoff. I was driving in front of my friend this afternoon and the color at the cutoff is insane. It flickers vivid purple/blue every time the cutoff aims at you - definitely a head turner! As for the shields, I tested them before I put the headlight together and it was definitely working, but I'll play around with it to make sure its not stuck when I get the chance. Thanks for the advice and all the helpful information in this thread!

How bad is light output on the stock Depo projectors? Is it worse than xenons in a halogen reflector?

no idea, but I cut mine them up and trashed them right away.

update: I played around with the bixenon shield a bit and it works now. The setup is gorgeous. I'll snap some pics when we install the h3 fog light bulbs matching the headlights in color.

Ok I bought the ZKW lenses. I also bought brand new factory AMG fog lights, from Germany. Funny...the fog lights say ZKW on them too. I bought a HID kit for the fogs, 8000K to match my lights. I am in the process of fitting the HID's to my fogs. Next I will get new Depo's and gut my old ones. I don't like how they fogged up and a little condensation got in. I can see little spots. I am going to invest in the 3M protectant film so they look new for a long time

There's a slight blue-green tint to them.
What size was the in-line resistor (OHM Resistance)?

You used LED's to light up the projector when its not in use, thats genius!
Agreed. Not my cup of tea. But, it looks like you did a really nice job.
I actually like the orange/yellow you picked & it was very smart to light up the non active projector.

which exact LED did you use for the running light? Ive been using canbus with built in resistors on my friend's but they keep going out. I've already tried two brands.

http://www.oznium.com/led-ribbon

I went with oznium and I still don't have any problems. just gotta keep up with the lenses, so that they don't yellow. A coat of Klasse every few months ensures that.
