W and S modes on transmission
Hey guys/Gals,
What does the w and s modes mean in reference to the transmission? It is a sliding button located nest to the gear shifter.
Thanks,
My MB didnt come with a manual. I am also going to order one, anyone know of a good place to go?

Best place to get an owner's manual is to sign up at mbusa_dot_com. It's free and registers your vehicle with MB. Once a member go to the owners section and you should find a link to a download.
Best place to get an owners manual to carry in the car is at the dealer. They are not that expensive (~$25) and are often cheaper than eBay. You might also get a Service Booklet which came with your car when new and details the service cycles for routine maintenance.
The S/W switch is for standard/winter. In S mode the car starts out in 1st gear and in W mode it starts out in 2nd to give better traction on ice and hard pack snow.
Good luck.

S means standard or summer and that is the normal position. For you in Texas I don't suppose you ever need to change it.
W means winter and makes your transmission start out in 2nd gear in D and in a higher reverse gear in R. This is to give you better traction in slippery road conditions.
I'd call MBUSA for a hard copy manual (800-FOR-MERC) or there might be one on eBay. Also MBUSA.com might still offer one that you can download in pdf fornat.
Congratulations on your car and welcome to MBWorld.
