E320 0-60 mph?
What is the actual 0-60 mph time on the E320? I've seen everywhere from 8 sec. to 6.7 sec. (motor trend long term tester, years back). This has always bothered me, and I was just wondering if any of you had an accurate/reliable statistics on this topic.
While I'm talking about performance... has anyone installed any after-market suspension mods (i.e. new shocks) to their E-Class? If so what was it? And how is the ride/handling? Is it worth it? ( $$$ cost?) My 2000 E320 is very softly sprung and feels quite "floaty" on the road, although it does grip well. I would like to improve the handling, to make it more BMW-like, if this is possible.
Thanks for any input! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
What is the actual 0-60 mph time on the E320?
The wheels are definitely heavier than OEM but are much better looking (score: looks 1, performance 0)
There is no comparison with the S-03's. Can't say enough goods things about them. Ask anyone who has used them. Much better handling by far (score: looks 1, performance 1)
Shocks and spings have made a vast improvement on the ride. I perfer a stiffer, performance oriented ride which this provides ten-fold over OEM. Cornering is flat with little body roll. The lowered look goes great with the wheels; a must if you don't want to look like a SUV. (score: looks 2, performance 2)
Looks like a tied score.
Well worth the money; I would do it again in a heartbeat.I just bot a MB lease return year 2000 E320 Lorinser wagon. Everything looks great except the previous owner took off the Lorinser wheels so i need to get new replacements. Visually, it looks like the car has the entire aero kit as well as the exhaust.
Also, it looks like the car is lowered(though it stilll feels soft to me vs. my stock Lexus SC400), but my concern is that sometimes when I go over dips, I hear scrapes that sounds like a tire rubbed against the wheel well.
My questions are 1)do I need new shocks? 2)Shall I get 17" or 18" wheels? 3)Do I need sway bars?
I don't really wants this car to be as stiff as a sports car, but at this point, it still leans quite a bit and doesn't handle as well as my SC400 w/ stock 16" wheels/tires.
would very much appreciate everyone's input.
Don't forget that you are comparing a wagon to a sports coupe. You are never going to get the wagon to behave like the SC400 (even in stock form) however some performance parts will go a long way to improving the feel.
It would be strange and unusual that even if the previous owner did lower the car that you would hear the rubbing of tire on wheel well. I can only imagine this if they either cut the OEM springs to lower or did not buy the right springs/shocks (load rating). Are you sure it's not the body kit rubbing on the ground?
You should have someone check out what you have on the car first. If you get shocks, do it right and get springs at the same time. Sway bars will stiffen the ride up even more if that is what you are going after.
As for the size of wheels, that is more up to you. Larger wheels are heavier so you loose out on performance, but it's all about looks. Most guys are now going to 19's and looking at 20's. After a certain point it gets to be a bit too bling bling but it is a personal preferance.
How about some pics of the car with the body kit and exhaust.
Sounds like a great find.
The dealer/friends who sold it to me has the link below. They do a great job finding cars a very good prices. So far, I REALLY like the car and I do hope that it's not the kit rubbing the ground...it only does it about once in a while when there's a sudden bump.
Also, I've been very happy w/ the brakes on the car. So far, it's helped me avoid 2 accidents by other careless drivers.
Lastly, I'm trying to keep the car relatively low key(or at least keep it from being too flashy) and thus avoiding chrome wheels. I'm thinking about either 17 or 18" AMG style. Some have said that there's not that much given up for going to 18" while others have said to keep them at 17".
I'll find out more on the suspension and get updates.
Thx again for your input.
Yeah that sucks that the previous owner took the wheels off and re-installed the OEMs.
Looking at the pictures, I don't think your car is lowered so unfortunatley the scraping you are hearing is the body kit. This can be confirmed with looking on the underside of the front spoiler to look for scrape marks. Changing the shocks and springs can still help in you this as with stiffer springs/shocks the car shouldn't bottom out as much.
My preferance would be to get Loriner wheels to keep the look unified. The body kit is too unique to use another tuner's wheel. Or go for OZ Superleggras; Sporty looking wheels that are superlight. Or if you the $$$ HRE's.
Mine is Avantgarde but I replaced the OEM five spoke wheels with 18" O.Z Racing and Dunlop SP Sport 9000, and swapped the OEM springs with KAW brand and lowered the car further.
The result is a far stiffer ride but on the other hand a far stickier car on the tarmac and minimal body roll with a very high speed cofidence especially when driving over 130 mph!
