Engine Shuts Off

I have a Mercedes 2000 E-320 with about 165K miles without any problems (until now!). It happened two weeks ago. I was picking up my son from swimming lessons and on the parking lot my car wouldn't start. I turned the key to start my car and it wouldn't start. I tried it again three times and it still wouldn't start. The starter works how it's supposed to work. On the 4th time, it started without any problems. Yesterday I was going to the Lowe's parking lot to see a guy. I talked with him for 5 minutes, and after that it would not start, AGAIN!!! After 3-4 times trying to start it, it started but, when I drove about 200 feet to the stoplight, it shot off. It started on the first time I tried to start it. After driving about 1 hour to go to a different stoplight, it shut off again, and started from the first try. The yellow engine light on the cluster panel is not on. Do you guys have any idea whats wrong?

Some of the OP's symptoms sound similar to what happened to my old 00 E320, which was then followed by MB>'s symptoms of tranny to limp mode.

The culprit ended up being the speed sensor, which is located on the transmission valve body.. I never did a post about my fix, but did correspond with a member on how I dealt with some issues I ran in to and the diagnostic that I received from the dealer. PM me if you'd like further info.

Also, to possibly exclude the speed sensor, do a search in the 210 forum for "speed sensor" to see if problems described match yours. I do hope you can rule out the speed sensor, because it was unfortunately a pretty costly repair at the dealer and relatively closely quoted by my indy. Best of luck

Crank position sensor

It sounds like the crank position sensor. It is located at the top of the engine in the middle near the firewall. $60 part just tight quarters to get in there. Same problem happened to me. I bet this is it 100%
