Instrument Cluster 1998 E320

The instrument cluster on my 1998 E320 has stopped working. It now reads 999999. I had 119,345 miles when it stopped working last April. I need help on how to replace it? Can I just remove it and replace it without programming the car? I appreciate any help on this.

Secondly, the A/C does not blow the cold air strongly. The air is cold but even if it's at maximum, the air that comes out is not strong enough to reach the back. The A/C vent in the middle for rear passengers is not hardly blowing any air. Thanks in advance for any assistance on this matter.

First: you have the most millage W210 here stay happy

hahaha its a joke, well the instrumment cluster need to be programmed, when you mount a new unit you need to put the vin number via HHT on in & they automaticaly recognize the millage of the car, (you can try some used cluster) but canot read the real millage of the car.. & the A/C replace the polution filters (back the globe box) & you can remove the charcole filters to see what happen, if you do not have good results changing the filters maybe you have a bad A/C resistance & not control all the vent speeds

Thank you much for the reply/information. How much would a new cluster cost? What is HHT? If I put a used cluster, will the mileage on the used cluster be the one to appear on the instrument cluster? And not the real mileage on the car itself? Are there auto shops that can do these aside from dealers to save on cost? I live in Las Vegas you might know someone here who does it.

With regards to the AC resistance, how do you repair it? I think that may be the problem because even if you increase the speed by pressing plus on the AC, I cant feel any difference on the air that is coming out.

I appreciate your help.

To expand on what Fabio said on the AC, check and/or replace your cabin air filters, especially the ones up behind the glove box.

If that fails, review the information below about replacing the blower motor regulator.

Well if you have some stages in the blower speeds that not work probably the problem is the blower regulator (resistance) but try first the cheapest fix (filters) but really the ac regulator is an issue in our cars maybe you need new one

HHT = Hand Help Tester (Scaner by a dealer) to program a new cluster unit

If you try a used one the mileage dislpayed is the mileage at the own car, not the real of your car.. anyway you can try find some with pretty close to your mileage & all works good.. the other fix is buy a new one at the dealer.

In our workshop we change one cluster by an E420 some years ago for 370$ if i remember good
