E430 with CEL question
Hi Guys, I have a 2000 e 430 that i had for over 8-9 years now with minimal problem. this past year i change sparks plugs/wires myself with no issues. The car runs great you can tell when its on its so smooth. but this last week the CEL came on and it goes away on occassion and return. I notice that the light blinks for about 3-5 seconds and thenits stays on.
The car is still ruining smoother than ever. can some one give me an insight ino this problem with cel. Is there anything iam missing here?? is it the gas cap i check it!! thanks in advance!

hey Julian, where are you at? how old are your cats? failing cats could throw cel, but if they "fix" themselves, albeit temporarily, the cel may go away, but it will be stored in memory....get a reader or stop by autozone or dealer and ask them to read the codes, then go from there.
....if cat(s) - you have four of them, two on each exhaust bank, one set in between the o2 sensors at firewall, second set after second o2 sensor at center of car.... try idling at ~1800 rpm and listen underneath car for 'rattling' from cat(s), or drive in reverse....but an exhaust shop would be better able to determine exactly which one, if any cat(s) is going/gone....good luck!

MBWorld Fanatic!
Get the codes
read or buy an obd2 scanner from harborfreight.
Don't guess at codes or worry about cats.
post the codes when you have them
