AC problems

OK, gang. This is the second time in a year that the AC failed in my 2000 E430. There was some type of leak and this time they pretty much replaced the drier, compressor, etc. under warranty. The last time it was O-rings and drier.

Does anyone else out there think it is a bit unusual for the air to fail twice in one year in a $57K car?

Has anyone else had these problems? Are there problems/issues with my model year or the W210s as a whole?

Speak to me Forum!

There's two common problems that stand out in the A/C system of a 210. Number one is the evaporator temperature sensor. When this fails, it reads a false temperature saying the temp inside the evaporator is way too cold, thus reducing the output from the compressor and causing you to have warm air. The second component is the receiver-drier, which either leaks, or internally fails.

Is the receiver/drier a poor design or what? I've owned just about every car from a 57 Chevy, a couple of Camaros, Merkur, Taurus SHO, several Volkswagens, to a Porsche, and including 2 Mercedes and have NEVER had the AC system fail twice in one year.

Is there a long-term fix or do I continue to take it in and have M-B pay to repair it?

How big a job is it to replace the evaporator temperature sensor? Any info on doing this would appreciated.

The car is a '99 E430.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Pick Up a New Evap temp sensor...
Remove the Left (DRIVERS) side under dash panel..Have a look towards the center of the car..and You will see it..Very easy to replace..10min MAX!
