Charcoal Filters
I have done a search and have checked the other forum for stickeys and have not been able to locate where these filters are located or how much trouble they are to replace or how often. I know that I have seen something about them in the past but I can't remember exactly where. Will someone please enlighten me?

Hi -
Easy to replace. Above the foot well on the passenger side, remove the black plastic panel. Note: You need to remove the black plastic louver on the side transmission tunnel (1/4 turn of fastener).
After you remove the panel, you can see the chambers. Slide white(?) plastic 'locks' (one up and one down) to remove covers. Filters are inside.
Filters (about $90 a pair) from autohausaz. Originally, the filters were packed with a large amount of act. charcoal and were quite heavy. Newer version is more like a pollen/dust filter with carbon coating. Note one frugal
poster opened his old ones and refilled with act. charcoal from pet store.
The only time they come on is if you switch them on or if the sensor detects NOx, SOx, etc.

MB recommends changing them every 4 years on W210. If you don't have one, I suggest you pick up a Maintenance Booklet for your MY W210. Just a few dollars (< $10) from dealer or 1-800-FOR MERCedes. There are slight differences from MY to MY within W210. For example, plugs on my MY98 are 100K or 4 years but on the MY01 they are 100K or 5 years.
I changed mine when I got my car about 3 years ago. I probably won't change them again unless I start to use them.
