advice about trading 1995w124 for 1996w210

I am considering selling my 1995 w124 e320 to get a 1996 or 1997 w210 e320. My a/c is having issues and the car needs paint, as well as needing egr work. The car has new tires, and only 110k miles.

I have someoone interestred for $3,000 US dollars. I have seen some 1996 w210 e320 w cold a/c and no engine work required, for around $4,000. Most of the other cars are way above blue book so this one seems to be a good buy. What do you think of switching out of a w124 for a w210, for about $1100 cost?

My personal opinion is that a 13 year old car has just about as many potential problems as a 15 year old car. As a MB owner I'm sure you know that the W210 also has a lot more electronics than the W124. To some that's convenience and to others it's headaches.

you are definitely right about the potential problems. I have been enjoying doing some of the maintenance myself and don't mind ordering parts and keeping on top of repairs whether done myself or through my indie. I am just thinking that I might enjoy a w210 in good working order and keep on top of repairs more than I am enjoying the restoration and time my 95 w124 needs.

Thank you for your advice, i am looking through common issues so that I am more informed on what to look for.

Keep the W124, if you are only changing two model years. It was built to a certain quality level and then priced versus the W210 which was built to a price point. The W210 was priced about $6000 less than the outgoing W124 at its launch so you do the math. The lowered cost of build came out somewhere. The facelifted W210 in MY 2000 was vastly improved over the initial design which was actually released as a 1995 W210 model in Europe. The metal on the doors is thinner gauge and the electronics leave alot. The W124 was built like a tank and was probably one of the best built MB sedans ever made. Also very easy and simple to maintain. Even the facelifted W210 can't compare with the build quality of the W124 in its final bow.

Ejsheltra... Thanks for the advice. I enjoy the simplicity of my w124 and after getting it worked on i am enjoying it too much to sell. The thud of the doors shutting is reassuring, i think i will just accept pouring some cash into getting a/c running. I think for the low ownership cost of the w124 overall pleasure i get driving it i have to keep it and save up for a cdi or bluetec... Better to have a stable of silver stars than to be cheap and dump my project.
