tire pressure gauge
Looking for suggestions for an ACCURATE tire pressure gauge. I've tried the pencil type and many others, all usually around $10-15.00. I get different results from each on the same tire. What's a reliable, accurate gauge that won't break the bank?

Do you find that it's accurate? .....and how do you know? Sounds like a chicken & the egg thing, but how do you know it's true? ( I want my tires to wear correctly and last a long time) Just found out the hard way not to follow the MB recommendations on the door tag for tire pressure. Wore out a nice set of Michelins that way. Not going there again! Mine's a 4 matic, but what are you running for pressures? I've been told to start around 36-38psi and measure with tread depth gauge every 3K or so. Look for consistent wear. Ideas?

Unrated pressure gauges are about plus/minus 1.5% so at 30 psig that would be plus/minus 0.45 psig.
The one I mentioned has a nice shroud on the connector which makes it easy to hold/keep in place on the valve and a rotating connector to position the dial where it's easy to read.
I use factory tire pressures and standard sized tires. I don't try to second guess a bunch of automotive engineers from Sindelfingen.

Sounds like you need to buy a decent gauge. I've used one of these for 10 yrs, being very careful not to drop it. I check it against other gauges at races and seems to read well. It's kind of the low end starting point for quality gauges. I also add 2-3psi to what the factory recommends, but that's personal taste.

You can spend $375, and get memory features and a pyrometer with it, if you really want to get crazy!
