1996 E300 Black/Grey and Rust :(
Rust
Why didn't MB offer a TSB, recall or discount for W210s with unusually high amounts of rust?
My rear fender, antenna hole cutaway for the phone antenna, trunk lock and rear deck lid seam and many tiny spots elsewhere???
So bothersome.
Anyone else have it as bad on their 1996? Luckily my spring perches haven't rotted off.

My '97 E320 has rust on every panel. First I noticed it behind the left wheel well, then around the trunk lock, then on each door around the rub strip. It first appeared about 5 years ago and has gotten worse (it never gets better on its own). I guess after 13 years being outside for most of it's life takes its toll.

MBWorld Fanatic!
There was
a tsb for rust issues taken care of by the dealer on years affected and areas affected they squirted heavy oil like goo in the doors etc.
Your years were not part of that water based paint issue.
Probably all the salt used in your states in winter.
Ziebart or other products plus frequent fresh water washings after exposure would have been advised. Little late for it now.

I'm guessing not likely
The rust is specifically where MB cut metal - if it was salt related I would have it on non-cut surfaces too. Putting goop in my door wouldn't help my wheel well. The bizarre location around the antenna grommet and trunk lock make me thing otherwise. maybe my wheel well is salt/rust related but the others are too uniform.

Obviously most of us here are fans of Mercedes cars. HOWEVER, even the most die-hard MB enthusiast cannot deny that for 15 years or so the build quality was diabolical and Mercedes should be ashamed of themselves and should have done everything in their power (as supposedly the best car manufacturer on the planet) to rectify all of the common (especially the rust) issues on these cars.
Pretty much every other car manufacturer has licked the premature rust problem so Mercedes as a "quality" brand dating back to the very beginning of the auto manufacture simply have no excuse - especially when they leave their customers to cover the cost of repairing their shortcomings!!
Rant over, I'll get my coat.
