300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Says depo

probably depo which still means it is crappo
are you going to do the projection conversion or live with the poor beam quality?

Some peolple advertise on Ebay that there Depo are not made in China but in Germany while some say it is made in China.
Does Depo have 2 different plants or the China ones are copies?

if you google this, you'll see that 99% of the hits reference Taiwan and almost
zero for Germany. seems pretty likely that Taiwan is the primary company. no
listing for Depo lighting or auto parts in Germany.

that's a heck of a price. couple of yrs ago, they were going for over $300/pr.
you can search the seller's feedback section and look for word Depo to see if
anyone has complained that they were sent headlights which were not Depo.
or, you can purchase and then appeal if they sold you falsely advertised parts.

Would these actually fit a 2001 E55 with the stock Xenons?

they will fit, but your light output will be diminished by about 60% as a result
of your switch from D2R HID over to H7 using a **** poor projector bowl/lens
design inside the assembly.

you got to be nutz to replace OEM xenon's with these.

am I really the only one that thinks projectors on w210's look horrible? Something about a circle inside a circle that doesn't look right, like Mikey Mouse on extasy.. w211's can pull it off somehow, probably because of the oval shape of the headlight.

I think they look nicer than the stock housing.
Have you seen them on a car? If not, you may change your mind after seeing them installed.

I actually think it looks good and gives the car a bit more updated look. My headlights are yellowing and I was exploring options for reconditioning and/or replacing.

However if these cut down light output, then that's an absolute deal breaker. I won't ever sacrifice looks over function.

you can try polishing the lens. some folks have reported success with various
home made, as we as commercial products available for the cloudy lens.

unfortunately, it is extremely rare to find replacement lens outside of OEM. the
halogen lens can be found for about $150+ on ebay.

another option is to open up the Depo headlight and replace with E55 bixenon or
very similar RS6 off an Audi. see this: http://tinyurl.com/lefnx8

I polished mine, and although they don't look 100% brand new when I was done - they did look a whole lot better for a whole lot less $$.

I do wish somebody would just create the lenses all by themselves.

I read through that your link with the retro fit. That's a bit more work than I'd like to do, but maybe the only option. What are the odds if I buy depos, e55 projectors, etc and ship them to you and you retrofit them for a price?

What about these on ebay...says set up for D2R already. Do you think this is an updated projector that has a decent light pattern since it's D2R?

I bought a set of Depo and retrofited them with bixenon E55 projector. Believe me it was worth the time and $. I took my time doing all the work and I'm very satisfied with the results.

i have done retrofits for free....but only for family/friends living in same city.
but with my job ratcheting up my tasks right now, there isn't time, even if done
for a fee.

just to give you an idea how backed up I am, I have a Depo opened up on
the project bench ready for an RS6 but it has remained unfinished for a year.

I was hoping, at the same time as above, to just create a DIY video and that
should take care of folks on the sidelines wishing to retrofit their own, but
just needed some visual aids. but i'm afraid it just doesn't look hopeful for
the near future.

Ray,

does Zam (Huy) still retrofit for people?
He did mine about 5/6yrs ago for my "old body type W210", and I'm even thinking about reaching out to him, cos I'm about to pick up a "02" "E".
I don't think I can drive a car on a regular basis without those xenons.

...Also, did Ben'z took up your suggestion to retrofit lights for people for a fee?

sorry d2...missed your post. Zam's home got larger so i suspect he has his hands
full with responsibilities and less time for projects.

if anyone lives near me, i'm happy to oversee/coach and give pointers. we
could film and photo progress and just post a DIY.
